The Mini Golf Show (Audrey is fired!)
The
Apprentice showed us alot about the
human condition this week. Audrey's meltdown was a
showcase of emotion. John's arrogance was hard to
take, but he was right about some of what he
said.
Now
to action vs. emotion. The Magna team impressed
with their extra efforts at marketing and their
exclusivity clause. It didn't have the impact they
hoped for, since Net Worth opted for handing out
flyers for their marketing plan. But, the coupons
had an impact and their team won by a couple
hundred dollars.
So,
Kendra shows a spark of marketing smarts.
In
the Boardroom, loyalties were tested to the limits
when Audrey brought in big sister/mom figure
Angie. Angie seemed shocked and hurt that Audrey
would do this. At first, she tried to be loyal to
Audrey by saying she'd fire John. But, when the
trigger was pulled on Angie, she changed and said
maybe I'd fire Audrey.
Trump
wasn't going to be fooled by Audrey's fire. She
sure could talk and defend herself, but there was
just too much to overcome. He was obviously struck
by her beauty, but, she was fired anyway.
Trump's
new observer, "Ashley" was not impressed
with John's arrogance and disrespect for Audrey.
Trump seemed a bit surprised at that comment.
Caroline
was back, her piercing gaze and pointed questions
were good to have back. Does the team respect
you?? Why did everyone fail at their task???

- Your Comments:
"Audrey,
Craig, John all back in the Board Room. I
guess it was obvious these people are not
good candidates for an Apprentice position!
Wow, the
emotional meltdown was interesting - a way
to say OK this is what NOT to do!
Angie seems
to be the only mature level-headed person
here. Tana's keeping pretty quiet, too. Good
for her.
Kendra showed
a little self-motivation, Erin seemed like a
little lapdog following her around. She
always seems to want the 'look at me aren't
I cute? sort of attention. It's getting
grating. Good team work this week from
Magna!"

"This was a very disappointing
show for me. I liked Audrey and
it was unpleasant to watch her
self-destruct like that. I also
liked John up until this show; he may
still make the final four, but he was
such a jerk last night that I'll be
rooting against him every step of the
way.
So where did Audrey go wrong?
Pretty much everywhere. After
the issue last week with Craig, Audrey
needed more than anything else to
prove that she could work within the
team without causing friction.
Getting into a cursing and screaming
fit on the patio wasn't a good way to
do that. Putting herself up for
Project Manager was a smart move at a
dumb time -- she should have waited a
week, maybe two, and concentrated on
rebuilding the relationships in the
team first. Then, maybe, they
would have followed willingly.
Instead she got blatant
insubordination from John and lukewarm
effort from the rest. Even then
it looked as if she had a chance to
save herself by staying cool in the
boardroom, but she made two fatal
errors: bringing in Angie, an
ally, to face firing and then
deflecting all responsibility for her
leadership. Trump hates bad
choices and he hates people who duck
responsibility.
On the other side of the suite,
Stephanie did exactly what she needed
to do to strengthen her position.
She worked last week to mend fences
with her teammates, and this week
stepped up to the leadership role.
She was enthusiastic about the task
and got people excited about working
with her, and the results showed it.
Most importantly, Magna in general
finally practiced effective,
smart marketing to get people to
come to them. Net Worth moved
too slowly and had to settle for
trying to divert some of Magna's
traffic, a strategy that never wins.
John is doing a wonderful job of
illustrating how someone can cross
the line from confidence to arrogance.
In the early weeks he was confident
and genuinely tried to help his team
be successful. Recently he's
been coasting, sitting back and joking
more and working less. In
this week's show he was outright
obnoxious, needling Audrey and pushing
her buttons apparently for fun. His
arrogance showed clearly in the
interview cuts, especially when he
talked about Audrey taking him to the
boardroom. If he keeps his
nose that far in the air he's bound to
trip on something sooner or later.
I'm hoping for sooner.
Trump used the words "corporate
restructuring" in the previews
for next week, so it appears the
battle of Book Smarts vs. Street
Smarts is over and the result is a
tie. I have to grudgingly give
credit to Magna, though, because it appears
to me that they learned and adapted
from their earlier failures while Net
Worth didn't."
